ALL ABOUT THE ROTORWIND® WATCHWINDING SYSTEM

In 2001, while striving to develop a more competitive watchwinder design, inspiration arrived. I thought:
“why not use gravity to provide the energy to wind a watch off the wrist just as gravity was employed
to wind a watch when it was on the wrist?” Refining that concept ended up with the development of a
unique new winding system which we named the “Rotorwind” Winding System.

This new system was designed to “swing” an automatic watch, rather than rotating it, mimicking the
natural action of the wrist. Then, with a series of oscillations triggered by a single revolution of a
low-current draw-drive motor, power would only be needed for a few seconds ever y 10 or 15
minutes. Battery service life would then be measured in terms of years, not months. Extensive “beta”
testing by hundreds of watch collectors owning a variety of automatic watches validated the concept
and thus the Sparta® Watchwinder Series was born.

In 2008, exciting new developments in battery technology, based on Lithium chemistry, led us to
investigate and subsequently design our own high-energy Lithium “D” cell storage battery. Orbita
would now be able to supply our Sparta Watchwinders with factor y-installed Orbita Lithium
batteries and we could then guarantee a minimum service life of at least five years! If an Orbita
Lithium battery runs down any sooner, we will replace it without question and without charge.
Concurrently, in response to the many requests we had received for a silent watchwinder from “light
sleepers”, we developed several new Sparta Watchwinders which are totally silent in operation. These
winders, operating on low-voltage AC, are powered by an extremely slow-speed motor that rotates
at only six revolutions per hour, thus making only a single revolution every 10 minutes—the same
operating cycle for our Rotorwind battery-operated winders.

If bedside “sound” is a problem, consider the AC design. However, if portability and freedom from wires
are important to you, go for the Lithium battery-operated units. Either way, you’ll own a fine, Americanmade
watchwinder that is guaranteed to provide years and years of trouble-free service. And most
importantly, in the event that service is required 5, 10, or 20 years downstream, Orbita Corporation
will be there to service your needs. That’s a promise!
