Ball Watch Co. celebrates 120 years of accuracy under adverse conditions with the Trainmaster One Hundred Twenty. Combining a dressy look, a solid 18K gold case, and Ball’s trademark micro gas tubes for excellent nighttime visibility, the Trainmaster One Hundred Twenty elegantly combines history and technology. In April, 1891, 120 years ago, two trains collided head-on at the depot in Kipton, Ohio, in what became known as the Kipton Fast Mail train tragedy. Several people were killed. As the story goes, an engineer’s slow watch may have been the cause. The incident prompted Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad to enlist Webb C. Ball to investigate timing conditions and to develop an inspection system to insure such a tragedy would never occur again. This lead to the creation of the Ball Time Service, and to the implementation of standardized practices for pocket watch manufacturing to assure dependable and accurate timepieces. Soon people were setting their watches by the train, and Ball’s name became synonymous with timeliness as phrases like “He’s on the ball” entered the lexicon. To honor 120 years of accuracy under adverse conditions, Ball introduces the Trainmaster One Hundred Twenty in solid 18K rose gold. The case measures 39.5mm in diameter.
